Might be a stupid question.

This might be a stupid question, but here goes. I have a 2010 Ram 1500 with the center floor shifter. When I crank the truck up and apply the brakes I hear a sort of click sound come from the housing around the shifter. When I put it in reverse I sometimes hear a click or clank sound. I know there is a release to put it in reverse. Is this what I'm hearing and is it normal?

It sounds like the brake safety mechanism is making noise. I could be wrong.

Sounds like normal operation to me .

Pretty normal. You have a transmission / brake interlock pawl that locks into place when you put the vehicle in Park.

When you take it out of Park and put it in gear, the pawl releases (click) and some force goes to the driveshaft and the u-joints will slightly bang a bit.

Nothing out of the ordinary.

If it begins to CLUNK hard, get to the dealer.

i think it is the selenoid who remove the pin to be able to move shifter
