Anyone with stock Alpine, Swap to Quality Spekaers but Retain the Amp?

I have the stock 7 speaker, 506w Amp, Alpine setup. I'm DEFINITELY going to be upgrading the speakers within the next week as the stock speakers are pretty distorted at low or high volumes, lol. But money is a little tight right now so I was wondering if anyone swapped out just the stock alpine speakers to something quality...but retained their stock Alpine 506w amp?

If so, how much better was the sound quality with just upgrading quality speakers? The sound with the stock amp IS loud..meaning even at say 28-30 (max is 38 vol) you'd have to scream for someone in the passenger seat to hear you. It's just not clear or crisp...and I'm wondering how much of that is the speakers and how much of it is the amp.

In short, If I can get away with just swapping the stock speakers with 6 quality speakers, component in the front, coax in the rear....and I can buy some more time before getting an aftermarket amp....that would be the most ideal thing for me right now.

So with that being said, anyone just swap the stock speakers with quality speakers and keep the stock Alpine amp and see a big difference?

Nope, never tried that. :D

I did:

2010 Ram R/T Install

Need to update the thread, but I swapped out the front door speakers for Peerless 835004 6.5" speakers, the dash corners with Dayton RS100-4, and the center channel with a Vifa TG9FD-10-04. It will get LOUD and stays very clear and detailed with no distortion anymore.

Damn man, I checked and the price of those speakers are like $10 shipped....that must really show how crappy the Quality of the stock alpines really are. And I was laughing at Mad Dogs $1.27 comment in other threads regarding the stock alpine speakers, but being that you're happy with $10 speakers swapped...he may not be that far off....lol.

What about your Rear speakers, chit, you swap those out for the same as the front?

No I cut the wires for the rear speakers. They're not required for what I'm trying to achieve.

You're right though, I paid $25 shipped for the 835004, $45 for both RS100-4, and $27 for the Vifa. So for $97 I have completely blown the stock system and just about any component set out of the water.

No rear fill this time?

chithead 08-09-2010 06:34 PM

No sir, no rear fill. And I contemplated no door fill this time also. Almost went with enclosures against the firewall, but it will be ok.

Gotcha, it's all coming together then..

chithead 08-09-2010 08:01 PM

Finally yes sir. I actually enjoyed the ride to work this morning.

Well, except for all the buzzes and rattles. But that's getting fixed next.

Hmmm...no rear fill, eh? Interesting!
