steering gear on my '97 Ram 1500 4X4
Input shaft seal is leaking..... I see most repair kits are $6-7 bucks, and a complete seal kit to do the whole box is about $17.
IF I have to take the box out just to do the input seal, I will do the whole box. If I can do it 'on the truck'... I will just do the input seal.
Is it possible to do it 'on the truck'?
For the little effort it takes to remove the box, I'd take it off. It's just 3 mounting bolts, p/s hoses, the input shaft and pitman arm.
Everything comes off the truck easy, but when I took the pitman arm off the box it had to go to a machine shop and be pressed off and it still took them 45 minutes to get it off. So just be warned that could be a problem if you want to get that off for the bottom seal.
