A/C affects idle

When I turn on the A/C, the idle speed lowers, and if i rev it up rpms are just under the first line, if it doesn't die. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what was the solution?

BronteRider 08-20-2010 06:53 AM

I mean when I rev it up and it idles back down, just to be clear.

Clean the throttle body lately?

Shouldn't be causing your truck to die, but remember your a/c compressor is connected to your drivebelts so when it's running it is pulling on your motor. Parasitic drain just like on a s/c just no extra power.

When the A/C compressor engages, it adds parasitic drag and slows the engine idle. It should not die, though.

What is your idle RPM with it off and with it on?

Don't run the A/C on max when idling.

The RPM's are the same with the a/c on and off, right under 750rpm's, but it is usually on max so that could be it. and no, i haven't cleanedthe tb.
