Superchips Review

I figured I would start this thread and update it as I go along.

My truck is a 2009 Crew cab 4.7 2wd 3.55 gears 265/70 17 tires and 100% stock. I've been disappointed with the engines performance under 3000 rpm. I live 25 miles one way from work and I would say on a given tank, I average 70% highway miles. I have been consistantly averaging 19-19.5 hand calculated mpg on my tanks of normal driving. I went with the superchips because of its ability to reduce torque managment, which I believe will help throttle response and highway passing.

Received the Superchips flashpaq today and installed the 87 octane tune on the truck. My immediate impressions are that the tuner makes a noticeable difference. Throttle response is better, but I would not say "its a whole new truck." I will update if this changes as the truck learns the new parameters.

I plan to call Superchips tomorrow (closed already today) and get the tuner setup for transmission tuning. I'll remove some of the TM and note how the performance changes.

My pan for the tuner is to test the different tunes and see what works best for me in terms of performance and mileage. I plan to run a couple/few tanks on each setting and see how things go.

Plan is
87 Octane
Towing Tune
93 Octane
Mileage tune

Still pleased, drive to work was enjoyable. I noticed that at lower speeds, the truck was quicker to down shift and had better throttle response than stock. 4th gear definitely had more power on the highway when accelerating/passing. 5th gear also seems to have more torque; I didn't feel the need to downshift as often to make lane changes, etc. I have not done any WOT runs and to be honest I really don't care how the tune affects WOT performance.

I called Superchips this morning about the trans tuning. It seems my truck's computer system hasn't made it through their system yet, so I will have to wait for that option. A little disappointed since I have an early 09 model; you'd think someone would have done that by now. They took my information, so hopefully it doesn't take them long to update their software.

There are a few transmission schedules on a different forum. Ill keep my eye open to see if there's something for you.

Well it only took Superchips a couple days to take care of the trans tuning for me. I tuned the TM down to around 20% across the board last night and didn't notice much of a difference. The tuner tells you where stock TM is, but it doesn't tell you where superchips tuning sets it. My guess is 20% is about where the Superchips tune sets it. I set it to 6% this morning and Im going to go test today.

Have you noticed a change in your mpg on highway driving? We do a lot of highway driving and I would consider getting a chip if it could increase fuel mileage. Im not interested in performance as I am in in increasing gas mileage.

Superchips is a great mod, keep us posted... Most customers are very pleased with them.

Im pleased so far, though I still may end up installing gears to help some more.

As for the MPG, the computer is showing an increase of about .5mpgs right now, but I will hand calc over the next two tanks and compare those to my previous hand calc averages.

Won't have much to update in the next few days, weathers great down here finally and I'll be driving other vehicles.
