A/C Condensor Fan or Low on Freon?

Okay, I notice my a/c condensor fan won't turn at times but I also noticed that the compressor cycles more than usual.
Question is, Is the fan not turning on due to low freon or is the compressor cycling more due to the fan not working properly?

New to this issue. Though I have seen posts about the fan. I thought I would try this question.

Is there something else that could cause this? A relay?
It does come on at higher speeds but as you slow down or stop at a red light it stops cooling.

I'd say take it to a shop and have your freon level checked then start from there. If you know what you're doing you can buy a set of gauges and do it yourself.

I would have guages hooked up and verify your freon pressures . All your problems may stem from that .

when the a/c is on, the fan should be on at all times. if the fan isn't running it will cycle quickly, hiss from the passenger side and not cool.

This is going to depend on ambient temps and system pressures. Rapid cycling is an indicator of low refrigerant.

but if the motor is not running, won't that cause the rapid cycling? sounds as if the motor should be fixed no matter what

Well after pricing the shops to check freon levels I decided to try the fan motor. 27.00. If it works I'm okay, if not, I can take it back.
Shops want to charge minimum hourly labor to check freon. 85.00 an hour.
