i was thinking about doing a custom mandle bent 3" cat back exhaust all the way back in single on my 09 4.7 has any body tried this.does it help that much? the guy at the muffler shop said it it would be 17% better flow then reg.bent pipe.
Chrysler uses mandrel bent pipe on all it's exhaust applications for some years now. However there are some glaring exceptions. The y-pipe in our trucks is two pipes essentially crimped down into a single fitting. Also the pipe that crosses under the tranny pan from the driver side manifold is flattened on the top for clearance. If you replace those parts the rest is already mandrel bent.
Of course the whole unit from the manifolds back to the muffler is welded on our trucks, and as such and modification of the y-pipe also potentially voids the warrenty on the cats.
Personally, I'm swapping out the muffler and deleteing the resonator but leaving the y-pipe alone for now. I have an appointment with the muffler shop to do the nessisary welding in the morning. I'll let everyone know how it all turns out.
