Road trip

Just made a 500 mile trip, pulling a 16.5 Alumacraft boat. 14.6 for mileage, that's at interstate speeds. I don't know if this is good, or not. I just know it shifts gears ALOT, even locked out of overdrive. 3.55 gears. Wish I had 3.92's. Sorry, just venting Doug

What is the total weight of your boat and trailer?

Allstate48 10-16-2010 07:46 PM

I don't remember the weight, but our old trucks have had either 390's,or 410. When I orderd this, I told them I wanted 390, but ,long story. We don't pull that much. 58 more payments, and it's someone elses. Thanks Doug

I feel your pain! I pull a 18.5 fiberglass boat with the same set up as yours. I asked the salesperson if this Ram will pull like my Tundra. Yep he says. Ya right! Come to find out, the saleman did'nt even know the difference between rear gears. I thought a truck rated to pull 8000 lbs, has a built in brake controller would pull great. Wrong! Any way, try pulling in 4th gear. That will help your downshifting. Sad to say, my Dads Tahoe with 5.3 pulls my boat better than the Ram with the Hemi. How sad is that!
