Gas mileage

Have a 2001 Ram 1500 4 x 4. Only get about 10mpg. I think "surely this is not normal." What is the usual mpg for this truck? What can I do to get better gas mileage? I have already replaced the spark plugs and air filter. Have also run fuel cleaner through it several times.:4-dontknow:

Is this an auto or standard? My brother had a '95 single cab short bed w/ 318 and 5 speed manual and he got 17 mpg around town.

It's an automatic.

depends on the engine and gear ratio (and heavy foot) mostly. if you have the off road package you likely have 4.10 gears which will work great offroad and pulling a load but nets barely double digit gas mileage (my dad's 01 360ci with plenty of mods gets about 12 on a good day). if its a typical 4x4 you may have higher gears like my '94 318ci has 3.55 which is a good all around gear and i get about 17 mpg runnin 33's. lowest mine has ever been was 11mpg pullin a car hauler trailer with another 94 ram 4x4 and a spare motor loaded on it. the 318 (in my experience) also gets significantly better gas mileage than the 360 while making nearly as much power. my fiance can top 20 in her 2wd '98 318ci. but about 14-17mpg with the typical 4x4 and 10-14 with the off road is probably about normal.
