Welcome to the forum. With any internal combustion engine, a cold air intake and freer flowing exhaust will work wonders.

For the computer controlled vehicles, the addition of a programmer or having a performance tune put on your PCM makes a big difference.

Sounds to me like you have a vacuum leak. It's either a cracked or loose hose; or it might be an intake manifold gasket leak or a leak at the base of the throttle body. Check those areas and makes sure your TB is on tight for a start.

Thanks, I should have noted that I've built many chevy engines (mostly race) and can do head porting custom cam profiles and do custom exhaust. I meant what tricks can I do that are excusive to the 5.2 mag? I'm already making a short list.
Headers
Porting TB
Porting a spacer
Fabbing a Ramair CAI
And looking into tuners or chips.

What I don't have is tech knowledge of the EFI and controls, like the AIS???
Thanks again!

Since you've worked on many engines you probably know this, but I'll say it anyway, a can of WD40 or carb cleaner is your best friend for finding vacuum leaks. :D

Touche.

Are these intakes prone to leaking?

Yep, it's very common, atleast among the forum members.
