heater core

i recently purchased a 2001 ram 1500 and there's evidence that the dash has been taken out. when i turn the heat on to defrost i can smell coolant and occasionally i get a haze on the windshield, but when it happens it clears up. and the smell goes away. wile other times theres no haze at all. my question is if the heater core was changed before i made the purchase what are the odds of there being left over coolant in the climate control housing? or am i wishful thinking when i hope that theres just residual coolant from the job leaving the odors.

Thats gonna be a hard call . The heater case does have a drain built into it . If you can't get ahold of the previous owner and question them , it's gonna be a decision your gonna need to make .

yeah i'll see what i can find if i can contact the previous owner, i bought the truck from a dealer in Pa and they purchased the truck from an auction. the truck hasn't lost any coolant since i've had it.(2weeks) thanks for you fast response

I've worked at an auction. Unless the work was done there, there is no way to tack back to the previous owner and ask the questions.

Best thing to do is keep running it and watch your coolant levels. Check for moisture inside the truck. Sooner or later if there's no actual leak the smell and steam will go away.
