Homemade tonneau. Any ideas?
Hey everyone. I want to make a homemade tonneau for the winter because i can't afford to buy one at the moment. I was reading up on a couple ideas and others peoples instructions but there are always a lack of pictures. If anyone has any ideas or any pictures of their homemade tonneau please post.

:smileup:I was going to do just that.......I found a cheap cover so i never did.I was going to get some ext. grade plywood and make it in two sections. Over hang the wood on top of the box rail a 2 inches, Use 2x2s to make a inner frame that fits under plywood up againgst the inside of the box rail. Attach front/against cab area with some hinges/or not.Support the plywood with 2x2s underneath for support. You will need 2 or 1 and 1/2 sheets.

I have never heard anyone that made a homemade tonneau cover, I am interested in seeing one done.

I would search craigslist and look for a used one. I picked up my hard shell for $60

We LOVE pics of Rams.

Here's how to post them:

Welcome to the 'Z', glad to have you here. When I built mine, I used .5" plywood, made the frame out of 2x2"s and fiberglassed the top. This thread (Post #2) has a pic of what it looked like:

I found this

also this

i personally would not drill holes into the TOP of the bed rails, i might consider drilling into the inner edge of the bed rail.
I wouldn't hesitate to use a spring loaded J hook, its a hook in the shape of a J, with a spring at the top of the straight part, you push down on it compressing the spring, then rotate the whole thing, until it catches under the bed rail, to release you compress it again & rotate it, letting the unit pop up because the spring is no longer compressed. I forget what they are called
