New guy from NY needs help with power door locks!
Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and hope some of you may be able to help me out with a problem I'm having with my '05 Ram 2500 SLT. Last summer the power door lock for the left rear door (its a quad cab) quit working when you hit the power lock switch from either front doors, or the key remote. You can still manually lock the door however. I didn't think it was a big deal to have to manually lock the door so I just let it be. Now about 2 weeks ago the truck started to cycle the automatic power door locks over and over again when the truck hits 15 mph. It turns the interior lights on, the door ajar idot light comes on the dash and the power locks keep locking over and over a few times and then it stops. Also, when I hit the power lock button on the drivers door to the lock position, all the int. lights come on and the door ajar light comes on. I'm not sure if this is all related to the left rear door power lock not working or if something else is going on. Any help is appreciated!

I'm fairly certain you have two seperate issues. My money is on the instrument cluster since the drivers for the interior lamps and door locks are there. The left rear door lock issue is most likely either a broken wire between the door and frame or a defunct latch.

Welcome to the Z! :wavey: I had the harness disconnect from the switch in mine and it wouldn't lock on it's own, but the other problem, I have no clue. RamTech is the guy with the know.

RamTech, I think you were right. I pulled the wiring harness out of the rubber grommet for the left rear door and found 5 broken wires! I spliced them all back together and everything seems to work fine now. It seemed like a pretty easy fix to the problem, but I'm still a little concerned as to why the wiring on a 5 yr old truck with only 27,000 mi on it is cracking and breaking like that. I did a search on the net and found other folks who have had the same issue with their Rams. I guess just another one of those DaimlerChrysler era cheapening of parts. God I do love this truck though!
