emergency lighting installation notes

...so, over my Christmas break from work I have some dash lights I need to install in my truck. There's a couple of questions I need answered before I tear into my baby:

1) I want to run a dedicated power line from the battery to the area under my back seat (I figure that will be the best place for my power distribution). What is going to be the best way to route that wire? Is there an existing firewall passageway that I can utilize?

2) What's the best/easiest way to drop the headliner? I need to install a dash light on the front windshield, and 2 lights out the back window. I figure running the wires through the headliner and down the C-pillar would be best?

Thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

Sorry I can't help with this one, I'm only familiar with the dash lights that plug into the cig-lighter. That installation is much easier, lol. Cody Daniels is a member on here with POV lights on his 05 Ram, he might be able to provide some insight on this one. Here's his YouTube account: http://www.youtube.com/DanielsSFD and here's his profile page if you want to send him a message: http://www.ramforumz.com/member.php?u=16405

Keep us posted with pics during the install

For #1, one way is going under the floor from the firewall, along the sill plates, to the back. There are several grommets in the fire wall near/below the heater box. What size wire you running?

For #2, you won't need to drop the headliner. If your wiring is coming up from below, run it along the A-Piller behind the trim. You'll see a trim piece running around the perimeter of the headliner. Don't try to drop the headliner if you can avoid it. It's a real biatch to get back into place and secured!

I haven't decided on wire size yet. I need to do some more calculations on how much load I'll be drawing.

I will be running wires from the top because my lights will be mounted up high; so the wires will have to come down somewhere.

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with Lights on it.

There is an exsisting firewall hole in the truck. (It is located under the steering column toward the engine compartment.)

I ran my power supply under my driver seat.

I ran my wires through the firewall and under the carpet in the truck to the drivers seat. (It is very easy to run wires under carpet.)

Give me a date to come into the chat room and we can talk more about it in detail
and I will post a video/pictures and link it to you with step by step instructions.

Thanks,
C. Daniels

I've got an 09. I am wondering if there's anything special I should know regarding dropping the headliner. Need to drill a hole in the roof an antenna. I will use the information in this thread to run power through the firewall :)

I'm still trying to determine a good place in the center console area to mount radio and switch box.

If you want I can make a video of the setup in my truck. Just Ask Me.

Here is my channel: www.YouTube.com/DanielsSFD

I have an 05 Dodge Ram.

If you get the chance to do that...that would be amazingly amazing. I did check out your YouTube channel and I like the amount of front and rear warning you've got. I was trying to check out your equipment mounting rig and couldn't tell. Thanks bro!

Actually...if you could post some pictures of your installation details that would be great!

Stuff like your wire routing, fuse block location, etc.

Thanks!
