LSD

Next summer I'd like to swich to a lsd, can anyone tell me what my options will be and approximate cost to do this?

Best bet is to head to a local gear and transmission shop to get an installed quote. It's honestly the easiest way and they can get you a decent price normally. As for cost, are you 2WD or 4WD and are you planning on changing the gear ratio or just install the LSD?

You know,
Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds. Wavy Gravey warning us to stay away from the brown acid or he might be talking about limited slip differentials. I'm not really sure quite yet.

LSD = Limited Slip Differential. Means when one wheel looses traction the other will kick in.

If your gear ratio is 3.92 or better on the newer Rams, you have LSD. If you have a 4x4 and want to change gears you need to have the same gear ratio in both front and rear.

Yes guys you're right I should have given more info lol sorry for the confusion. I have a 4x4 with 3:55s don't want a gear change just want to get the rear done. One wheel wonders just don't cut it. I am wondering what companies i should be looking at and if someone has done this what the cost is going to be or at least what the ballpark price i'm looking at. Thanks for any info is appreciated

LSDs cost anywhere from $250-$500. Labor will be the same as a gear change b/c you are replacing the carrier....labor prob anywhere from $250-$400.

There are a bunch out there True Trac, Auburn Posi, Trac Lok, whatever the one dodge uses, etc. Personally I wouldn't buy one that uses clutches b/c they wear out.

I wouldn't necessarily go with the cheapest installer either. I'd ask around and find someone that knows what they are doing and can set up the gears properly. If not, they'll whine.

Since your truck is so new you can prob get away with reusing your bearings but if you have a bunch of miles I'd buy a master install kit (M.I.K.). I'd think about gettin one anyway b/c at only $90 it would be cheap insurance plus most of the kits use Timken bearings.

Dodge has used the Auburn carriers since the 90s, and you can pick the LSD carrier up for pretty cheap these days. Unless you're looking for a locker, picking up a stock LSD would be my recommendation. You can try one of our supporting vendors here and see if they have what you want. I would imagine it's the one with internal gears, but not 100%. You can also check for dealers near you from the Auburn website

AHHH, O.K. , Sorry guys, I guess Im from the old school. Used to call it a "Posi". I am now educated. Thats the problem today, TMDA.(Too Many Damn Acronyms) By the way, the factory unit in my'10 Crew works great. You may want to search around in a few junkyards. I recently helped my neighbor put in a whole rear that he got for $500.

Thanks for the replies. Is Trac Loc dodge "stock" unit on the Ram? And would I be correct to assume that if the Dodge dealer installed my lsd it would not affect my warranty?
