ram 2500 auto. how much weight is safe?
I just bought a 97 ram 2500 with the 5.9 V8. It's an automatic and has a tranny cooler.
It has 143k miles on it. What can it safely tow and not tear up the transmission. I won't tow with it all the time. But might end up getting a farm tractor to restore and would have to haul it. I'm in high school and a friend and I were think about raising some animals and I'd have to haul them off to the fair. (funny he has the farm but I have the truck)
I figure the most I would ever tow would be a tandem axle car trailer with a tractor, or a jeep or something. So the most I'd haul WOULD NEVER exceed 8000lbs and probably wouldn't be more 7000lbs.
I'm going to get a brake controller for sure.
This truck has to last me the next two years of high school and hopefully longer then that and I don't want to do something stupid and tear up my transmission. I'd probably tow no more then 6 times a year and it would never be very far.It would always be within the county I live in.
I think you will be good. My dad has a 97 chebby and he hauls a 5500lb camper no prob.
You're fine. You have a 13K towing capacity.
