Shocks for Off-Road edition??

my '01 Off-Road came with the red, heavy-duty shocks which Rock Balls (absolutely no body roll, handle bumps with ease and i can corner at high speeds as good as, if not better than, the little rice rockets that try to race me down the big windy hill into town) but it's about time to replace/upgrade them and i'm not sure about brand and height.

the edition comes with a 2" lift (some say 3", i'm pretty sure it's 2. build sheet coming from Dodge any day now. annny day now...) so does that mean i need shocks for a 2" lift? sounds stupid, i know, but i'm just unclear whether factory lifts are the same as after-market.

as far as brand, my mechanic swears by KYBs, says they are 30% better than the rest all the way around. but i've been looking online and found more people like Edelbrock & Bilstein. any preference?

i'm looking at 80% highway 20% off-road use. i want a smoother ride than what i've got now (factory shocks are as stiff as i can stand on the highway but get the job done off-road) with the ability to take hard bumps and knocks on rough terrain.

any advice greatly appreciated!

It just had stiffer springs and what not, giving it 2 inches over a normal truck.
Billsteins have shocks for 1"-3" lifts, and I am sure other companies do to, that is what I will be going with when I upgrade mine. Cheapest place I found for them was topguncustomz.com

right on. thanks for the heads-up, we'll have to compare before & afters!

(ps: where *did* you get that rollbar?! i will sell my gf's corolla in the dark of night to buy one just like that. msg'd you about it but may not have gone thru...me being a super-noob and all. do i need to head to Iowa for one of those or can the i-net hook a brother up??)

Mine came out of a 70s Ford high boy my parents neighbor had and he gave it to me. Its just a cheap bolt together one, There are companies out there that are making them. I have even seen a couple on craigslist.

Right now its not even on my truck, got the hard tonneau on for winter

nice one...it looks f-in tits on there. here in Cali we dont have much need for tonneau's in winter so if you wouldn't mind lending the roll bar until, you know, snowmelt i promise to take good care of it. and patch the holes from my KCs.

the ones ive seen online are weak. double-bars and "flamed out" siding. BOO. yours is hella cherry and old school. per your advice i'll sniff around for an old 70s truck with a bar to liberate!

damn that was fast! (thats what she said.) seriously, thanks for that. i've seen these and like the single/single chrome (sorry but that double-bar is g@y) as the next-best to what you've got. tho for $700+ i may as well rip it outta somebody's old beater! thanks for the heads-up man, much appreciated. :thumbs-up smiley face:
