what's normal operating temperature?
Hey all, if you've been following me I just changed my water pump, thermostat, radiator, hoses and coolant. The temperature gauge needle is sitting right exactly between 55-100 (so about 75ish). I don't remember where it was sitting before I changed the system. Does that sound like a normal operating temperature?

I don't think so. I beleive the normal temperature is much higher, something like 200+ F. It will depend on the thermostat setting among other things. My guess is your gauge is off or I am really off!!! Think about how hot your anti-freeze gets - I doubt it is 55 when the truck has been running for a period of time.

I should have asked - is your reading in C or F?

What temperature thermostat did you place in the truck? The gauge should read the temperature that the thermostat is for at normal operating temp. The water in the motor should reach the thermostat temp before the water will start flowing threw the block and back into the radiator. The reason for the thermostat is to maintain and control the operating temp of the motor for fuel economy and performance. Hope this helps. Should be 180 degree or 210 degree depending what you bought.
