need traction!

Hey whats up ppl? Im looking for a bit more traction for my truck. I live in the sticks and getting stuck by my back porch is no fun. Im trying to find some rear end upgrades maybe a posi or detroit locker. Surely dodge made a posi? My truck is real light duty its the 5 spd and open diff. Im wondering if theres a rear end i could just pull from a junk yard and swap out for cheap , but if I have to buy new parts then thats no problem. Has anyone done rear end mods on here? also a bit lower gearing would be great, gas milage isnt really an issue with this vehicle.

Your salvage yard idea is your best bet. You should be able to get one with limited slip or posi. Just get the whole thing including the housing and swap them out.

Make sure what you get is in good condition and while you're at it, change fluid or grease whichever it has and all seals, plus change your u-joints since you'll have the drive shaft off too.

I agree that a salvage yard is one good source of the limited slip differential you are looking for. An ARB air locker would be another great option. Full locking rear diff when you need it, open diff for down the road motoring.

what type of axle is it? is it only the 9.25 for the 1500? what do u think about the eaton e-locker versus the arb
