Transmission Issue

For the last 20K miles or so, My 2005 ram will occasionally get "stuck" in second gear. The check engine light will illuminate and the codes are p0700 and p0841. There was a TSB regarding this on the tranny filter and I have replaced the filters in accordance with the TSB, but it still continues. As soon as I reset the computer, it all goes back to normal and works fine for a few more weeks. I have a scan tool to clear the codes, so I have just lived with the problem since resetting it is a quick fix. Went to a transmission shop and they said new tranny for $2,300 without looking too much into it. They said tranny was on the way out, but that was 20K miles ago. When it gets in this mode, the engine almost want to stall out when I come to stop (feels like im in a manual trans truck and stalling it out with the clutch). If i let it roll about 6 inches, it will not stall out. Again, it instantly fixes it self when I clear the codes and works perfect again till the next time. Any advice? I have 65K easy miles on the truck Thanks!!

Sounds like a torque converter clutch problem. How about posting the codes?

P0841 and P0700. I'm pretty handy around the car, but dont know much about automatic tranny....yes, it almost feels like the torque converter stays locked up and wants to stall out the engine. Its not the engine itself...it runs/idles fine. If I throw it in neutral 2 second before it comes to a stop, it wont stall either. Again, as soon as i clear the code, it all goes back to normal for a couple weeks. I've learned to live with it, but now I have some free time/money and would like to fix it and do the other mods. Thanks man!

P0841 is for the low/reverse pressure switch in the tranny. While the switch itself is usually at fault, there are several other possible things that can cause it, so a properdiagnosis is the best course of action. I also believe your stalling issue is most likely related to a dirty throttle body since no TCC codes are present.

Man, I appreciate the help. How would you suggest cleaning the throttle body? Funny thing is I had it in the dealership and they returned it without the airfilter and I did not catch it for sometime...that could explain the dirty throttel body? thanks again for your help...its appreciated!!!

Transmission Issue

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has some wisdom for me. I have a 2010 SLT with a 4.7L with 40k miles on it. I recently noticed a slight grind when I enguage it into reverse. It's not horrible but I previously owned a 2001 that went through two transmissions in 170k miles. So any abnormal noises from the transmission worry me.
Thanks,
