Question about my brakes

today as i was comming to a red light i hit the brakes and it felt like i was pressing on a brick. when im at a high speed and pump the brakes the first pump is soft and works fine as well as the second but when i pump it for a 3rd or 4th time it feel like that brick feeling. the truck slows down but barely if i dont touch them for awhile it does the same thing any idea's?

When was the last time you had the braking system bled and new fluid put in? Also, I'd suggest you look into some braided steel lines to replace the old rubber ones which are probably worn out and expanding too much.

10 year old brake fluid?
drum or disk or both
old rubber lines
hone brake cylinders
wheel cylinder kits
EBC pads

don't worry, i'm just thinking in text

A high, hard pedal with the engine running indicates either a loss of vacuum to the brake booster or a failing booster. The other problems listed above tend to give a low, spongy feeling pedal.

yup ramtech is right i had a chevy pickup where the brakes were good (sometimes) but got stiff often and eventually had no power brakes so ur brake booster is the best bet. and a change of all your old brake fluid would be good too.
