Exhaust clarification?

Hey, I currently run a Cherry Bomb glasspack on my 360. Some of my co-workers mentioned the truck may not be running to its full potential b/c the glass pack produces no back-pressure. In order to improve fuel mileage and performance should I install an oval style performance muffler which produces back-pressure? Any thoughts?

I'm sure there's some back pressure there, it's a question of how much. The term "full potential" is relative depending on what you want. Looking for more power in the upper RPM band? Then the best flowing muffler available is what you need. Want to make more torque in the lower RPM range? Then you need a little back pressure to accomplish that goal.

Thanks man, I guess I'm just more curious to know if cherry-bombs add hp and mpg or are they just for making noise. Still wondering if I should change up to a universal magnaflow or flowmaster.

Are you running them all the way out the back? And do you have cats on it?

^^^^ Good Questions ^^^^

Yes I'm running with cat converter, then the glasspack and pipes out behind rear right tire

Then it sounds like you should be making enough back pressure with the glasspacks.

K, a buddy and I just sawsalled off the stock muffler and welded on glasspack and extension pipe to make up the difference for the shorter cherry-bomb. Still curious as to how well my set-up compares to a magnaflow or a flowmaster.

With the glass pack it should be less pressure than the magnaflow or flowmaster, because it's a straight shot through. Magnaflow and Flowmasters are still actual mufflers.

With a magnaflow or a flowmaster, you'd probably enjoy it more. It still gives you power gains, but it would be an even gain. Not to mention cherry bombs are just obnoxious (to me at least). A magnaflow or a super 44 flowmaster would be a sweet choice. They give great deep tones and you can feel it.
