installed a magnaflow exhaust, NEED HELP
i just had a cat-back single into duel out on a stock engine, the magnaflow muffler is an open muffler, you can look right thru it there is no baffle in it, it seems i lost top in power, could it be because i lost back pressure ??? please help, what can i do,

Not to sure about your miffler specifically but a loss of back pressure could be your problem. But I had a thrush welded on my dakota and that was nothing but a tin can and I did not have a problem w/ loss of power due to back pressure

Reduced back pressure would cause a loss of torque in the lower rpm band but not a loss of power on top end.

i would like to thank everyone who replyed about my little power issue, when i had a tune-up done they installed some low cost AUTOLITE #5224, i replaced them with CHAMPION RC12MCC4 from the dealer, WOW WHAT A DIFFERENT A SPARK PLUG CAN MAKE,,

wait and run a couple of tanks of gas through it.... This will give some time for the computer to adjust to the new flow characteristics. I went through the same thing.

how does it sound??

mark1963 02-14-2011 09:50 PM

it sounds great!!! it seems like it came back to life by removing the autolites & changing back to the factory champion plugs, if she wakes up any more by the computer ajust to the new flow characteristics, well all i can say is WOW,!! the gas mileage has already increased,,

Very nice 18" Magnaflow took the truck some getting used to! I also re-welded a new Y pipe in, so it was a big change. It runs like a beast now!!!

is your magnaflow an open muffler as well, and did it take a little time for your computer's characteristics to change,???

It is, it's a straight through design. I just had a shop "build" me a complete cat-back. Saved some money and got all the same stuff as a kit and then some :) It rus great now. I hear you can pull the fuse to the ecm and it will learn the airflow faster than without doing it, but I didn't do it. Just drive it. Your Ram will learn!
