Tranny issue on 2009 ram 1500 4.7!!!

today i was pulling my boat. i had the tow/haul on. i dont know what gear it was in but i was running about 2000 rpms and all the sudden(on slight uphill) the tranny upshifted and i was at 3500 rpms. i slowed down then gave it a little gas and the rpms jumped up again, almost like the tranny was stuck. i took it off tow/haul and everything was fine after that.

the truck has 28k miles on it. i dont even know if i need the tow/haul, the truck seems to run 2000 t0 2500 all the time when it is engaged.

anyway i got a little nervous today as i just purchased the truck last week!!

anyone know what could have caused this? the tranny temp never got above 134

thanks for looking

I dont hear anything wrong with what you just described. It just sounds like your truck says I need more power and downshifted.

I have to agree. I don't think there is anything wrong. I t may be more a case of you getting familiar with how your truck responds under various conditions.

The 4.7 is a small engine, and if the load is enough to make it lug a little, the computer will quickly respond by telling the trans to down shift.

If you are concerned, I will recommend taking to the dealer....with the boat in tow....and have a technician take it for a drive to evaluate what it's doing under the conditions that concern you.

Either way, keep us posted as how you make out.

Sounds like it just needed to downshift to keep the power. Tow/haul mode basically just gets rid of 5th gear so you have plenty of power in 4th gear. Sounds like the incline was steep enough it downshifted.
