Is wider better?

I've been researching and reading comments about the pros and cons of wider tires for my Ram. The 275/60/20s that come stock seem to be a nice size even though the Goodyear HPs suck. I will be getting the Daystar 2.5 inch leveling kit soon and new tires. Would the stock size, 275/60/20, look bad with the leveling kit? In other words, since I'm leveling, do I need the wider tires to make the truck look good with the leveling kit? Thanks.

You don't have to, most people go taller to fill the wheelwells a little more. If you plan on using it offroad, then there is a benefit to wider. There are plenty of leveled trucks on stock tires and they look good!!!

I'm with Timmy on this one.

A leveled truck w/ stocks dont look terrible by any means IMHO. But a little taller not neccesarilly wider looks great.

Its all a matter of personal preference, bigger tire though give poorer mpg though, not a huge decrease but there will be one.

One thing that concerns me about a wider tire is the added pressure on balljoints!! A buddy was running 14.50 wide thornbirds on his dodge and was eating balljoints every 6 months.

i just had a set of 305 55 20's installed on my truck today ('10) and the tires are soooo close to my ball joints. i guess ill be getting spacers. how do they wear out the ball joints? and how do you know if they are bad?

Thornbirds are hell on stuff no matter how wide they are ! Boggers are terrible also, they are bad looking tires but in my opinion good for off-road trucks only.

First picture is with a 2.5 leveling kit with the stock Wranger HP tires you were talking about. They looked good but are not aggresive looking tires and I hated the way they handled in the snow. Went with 35x12.50x20R Federal Courgia M/T tires today (second picture) a huge noticeable difference had numerous people comment on the look of the truck when before they wouldn't. They are not much wider but fill the wheel well out more and are a huge aggressive apperance difference. Also added some height. I guess it all depends on preference and what sort of look you are going for on your pickup. I personally think the wider tires look good on pickups with the 6 inch or more lift. And I got the tires for $1000 with install and warranty so couldn't pass that up:smileup:
