Built In Mexico?

I ran into my salesman last, night while doing groceries, and he confirmed that my truck has finally shipped on Tuesday after placing the order December 10th.

Much to my surprise, he mentioned that it was coming from Mexico.
I thought all Ram 1500 were being built in Michigan and only the 2500 and 3500 were being built in Mexico.

Even though I am Canadian, I would have prefered a U.S. built truck in order to support the more local economy and, I think, a better quality product.

It is entirely possible that your truck is being manufactured in Mexico.... Saltillo to be exact.

If you pick up the April issue of Car and Driver Magazine on pages 20-22 there is an feature entitled "Up Front" and the title of the article is Domestic Bliss, A Look at what's "Made in America"

It shows that the Ram 1500/2500/3500/4500/5500 is manufactured in Saltillo Mexico, but the 1500 is also manufactured in Warren Michigan.

I wish I could've found the article on the C&D website so that I could link it, but either I'm too stupid to find it, or they haven't got it online yet.

While I was waiting on mine the dealer gave me an update that mine had left Warren, Michigan on such & such a date. I had heard they were build in Mexico. Glad to know mine was build here in the states, if it really was.......................

When I was looking I saw trucks that were built in both locations.

Is there a way to tell the difference? i.e. something on the drivers door or in the VIN that would indicate where it was built.

Yes, if you look on the drivers door (or perhaps the jam) it will indicate where the truck was assembled. I noticed the sticker on the door one day with my 2500 when I was cleanning it.

the first digit of your VIN# tells you where it was made
1 indicates made in USA
2 indicates made in Canada
3 indicates made in Mexico

Great info...just checked mine...made in Michigan.....

Maybe we could take a poll or something and then find out from those that are having issues (hopefully very few) where their trucks were built? That would be interesting.
