low oil pressure

anyone have a check gages lite on with the oil pressure gage at 0 after startup for a few seconds then jumping up to normal? Is that real or a sticky gage?

I'm thinking it could be an aging sensor but you need to double check what you're seeing now against a mechanical gauge.

Had a similar problem in my Dakota checked it w/ a mechanical gauge and it turned out to either be a sensor or gauge problem so I just let it be and never had a problem.

The sensor is the most likely suspect. Gauge failures are pretty rare.

Thanks for the clarification re: gage failures. i should have been more specific about the sensor. i've been reading there are oil pump issues as well which led me to wonder if it was real. my truck now has a very noticeable tick on the driver's side of the engine. it was louder when i first saw the delayed oil pressure reading. today, when i started it to go plow it was delayed as well, but not as long. the tick isn't as loud today. Must be a lifter, no?

Thanks, guys.

I heard a ding and saw a warning light was on, before I could see what it was it went off and everything looked normal. Then it did it again and I noticed that my oil pressure gauge dropped to 0 and the check gauges light came on. So I watched it for a second and it went back up and the light went out. Since then its been going down and up, on and off, and I began to notice it only does it when i start slowing down at a stop light.

I've been experiencing the same problem when im sitting at red light the oil gauge drops to zero but as soon as i take of it jumps right back up. This weekend I'm gonna pull sensor and change my oil.
