Clearcoat peeling off of my 2009...any recourse through chrysler?

Here are the pix, I will let them speak for themselves. If you guys dont think I have any recourse here, then I will just fix it myself, but if ya'll think its worth a shot to see if the dealer will sort it out (30 mile drive one way) then I will see what they say. The peeling is happening all the way down the rockers on BOTH sides of the truck, as well as behind the mudflaps on the rear end. I am thinking they are going to tell me its wear and tear and they arent liable...but I dont think a barely 2 year old truck should look like this. Prepare to cringe...its pretty bad...

To be honest, some of it does look like road rash...in which case there is nothing chrysler will do. but something tells me this is not just due to road rash. What do ya'll think? I am kinda ticked to be honest. It wasnt like this before we drove across the country, so this is a new development within the last 10k miles.

I don't live in your climate, but I think they should certainly repair the areas where the clear coat is peeling. The rock chips are what they are. I'm assuming this is from driving over sand and gravel?

I see your bumper is rusting to **** too. They should fix that too.

If your truck is still under bumper-to-bumper warranty then they should have to get it fixed. Only reason I can see them saying no is if their is evidence of a chemical or something that was applied that caused the peeling. Rock chips are unavoideable and should not be factored in to it.

Ouch, that looks pretty bad and I would hope they will take care of at least the clearcoat problem and bumper rust. Best of luck to ya.

Do you live up north were they salt the roads a lot if so dealer might use that as a way out but best of luck to you

I'm thinkin' this is a valid warranty issue.

The truck has 54,000 miles on it, so no I am not under the 3.36 bumper to bumper. The truck does not reside in the salt. I live in Washington state, they do not salt here. The truck did come from NY, but it wasnt there very long before it left. It was only in the salt a couple of months. I do have a Maxcare liftime warranty on the powertrain, but this is not even remotely a powertrain issue. I am going to see if I can pursue it under the Corrosion warranty, or at least see if chrysler will goodwill it. If not, a roll pan and some rhino liner are in order for the 3" from the rockers, up.

If you are over the 3.36 you are toast. There is no way they will cover it. Its not a corrosion issue so that's out too. There is alot of stone chips but The bigger issue to me is who repainted your truck? I'd talk to whoever repainted it and ask them why their clear is peeling. I see evidence in pics 2 and 4 (paint on the plastic trim) that says that's not factory paint.

I would definitely take it in and see what they say. As has been said, rock chips are what they are, but I think the first and last pics say it all. Hopefully they will take care of it and you get the rock chips repaired as a bonus, but good luck and be sure to keep us posted!

Clearly the truck has been repainted, its evident in many places. Its also noted in Chrysler's database, because it was done at the dealership when new due to hail damage. It had 19 miles on it when it was repainted. I purchased the truck with a clean carfax at 42k miles, I noticed the paint overspray at purchase...but it was NOT peeling. When I took it in to have the dealer look it over before I purchased they said it had been repainted at a Dodge Dealer due to hail damage, I thought nothing more of it because of the awesome deal I got on the truck.
