Tow Hooks On My Ram. (Many Pics)

So, I wanted a set of tow hooks installed on the front of my 08 1500 but, I just was not fond of the open hook style that is application specific for my truck. What I really liked and had always wanted for my truck, was a set of 07-09 25-3500 Mopar styled hooks. This meant some custom fab work was in order. I used some 3"x3"x1/4" square tubing to make a cross member to mount the tow hooks too and some 4"x1/4" steel strapping to box in the cross member and to make some brackets to use to tie in the front frame plates to the frame for added strength. For those of you who thought it couldn't be done, enjoy the pics.

Got the hooks off a burnt out 07 2500 at a local salvage yard for $42.00

Powder Coated for $30.00, the color is a couple of shades brighter then my trucks Flame Red paint but, it will do just fine.

Rough figuring on where to trim out for the new cross member.

Recesses cut out of both sides, test fitting some 1/4" plates to be welded on and shot of cross member (boxed w/ 1/4" plate and fully welded) and bumper mount plates.

Welding completed, cross member was completed and painted with Rusto-leum Bed Liner. Tow hooks were mounted to the cross member and then to the bumper. Then the whole assembly was carefully raised on a 2x12, with a couple of floor jacks and bolted into place.

1/4"x4" plates were used to make a bracket for each side, to tie the frame end plates into the frame for more strength. There is a piece of heavy walled tubing put through the frame and welded on both ends, with another piece of heavy walled tubing on the end of the bracket for a bolt to go through. Sorry the pic isn't very clear.

Rough cut outs in the fairing. It took many, many, test, trim and fit tries to get it to set back in correctly and the final openings were almost twice as tall as they are in this picture. But, I finally got it to work.

And the finished project. Overall, I spent more money than I really wanted to but, I am very happy with the way they turned out, and still prefer my way then going with the stock, application specific, open hook tow hook bar that is made for my truck. I wish I could have spaced them out a little farther apart but, there wasn't enough room and with the framing I constructed for the hooks, I really don't think there will be any strength issues. Thanks for reading.
