Mechanical oil pressure gauge help w/install?

I just bought the mechanical oil pressure gauge. (Sunpro $18) Is it neccesary to put in a "T" where the existing unit is in order to keep the old unit plugged in? Or can I just leave the old unit unplugged and run the new mechanical one in its place? Also what is the PSI supposed to be at when idling and at throttle? After I check the oil pressure I will tell you what I found. My truck is a 1996 1500 5.9 4x4 it has 196,000 miles on it. Thank you in advance.

yes you do need a t fitting. you can find them at lowes with all the reducers and everything if needed. remember teflon tape, had an ex gf's daddy help me put one in my old s10 and he didnt use teflon tape, all the oil leaked into the x-member, so i couldnt see it leaking...motor blew. the oil pressure sending unit, at least on my s10, also controles the fuel pressure too. should read between 30-60 pounds. and up from there with rpms.

At a minimum, you should have 10 psi for every 1000 RPM.
