Help! Towing capacity 2010 Ram 1500.

I can't find the real towing capacity for my truck....the Ram site won't allow me any options.
2010 Ram 1500, crew cab, 4x4, auto, Hemi, 3.92 rear end, 20" wheels. My rear end got hot towing 8000lbs and that dosent seem right.

How hot did it get and what are you basing too hot on? 8k is quite a bit so I'm sure it heated things up.

I have a laser type thermometer...it read 285F, so i'm sure it was hotter while towing (the rotton dead smell occured too).

A reg. cab. long bed, 3.96 gear, 17" wheel, Hemi truck says it can tow 10,250lbs. I'm hoping to find the specs. for my truck?

Although I'm not aware of a heat spec on a rear diff, that is abnormally warm and probably destroyed your oil. I would change to a synthetic and be sure you're using the 75w-140.
It could be your gears are not meshing correctly or have not broke in correctly. If there is any "clicking" when you put it into gear or a vibration when driving I would take it to the dealer and complain. Heck, just take it in a say it started roaring when you were towing and your thermometer registered 285+ just to get them to check the gears. With a 2010 you should still be under warranty. You can also look at getting a finned aluminum cover.

Here are the 2011 specs. They should not be too different are weight ratings are just a numbers game for truck peter measuring contests anyway. http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/201...ammlup1500.pdf

Thanks for the links guys.

I took the truck in right away to the closest dealer while on my trip to Idaho last week. The dealer said no warrenty because I over loaded the truck, I paid out of pocket to get fluid changed to 75-140w and get my truck back. The truck has 2400 aprox miles on it.
I weighted the trailer empty today (3700lbs) the Viper weight is 3500lbs+ my lawn mower 450lbs. They said the truck is only rated to tow 8000lbs. is I'm building a case against them. (very small dealer in SE Colorado)

Some of these dealers are outrageous as well as just plain stupid. The only sensible reason one can think is that some dealers are near the breadline and need cash flow as Chrysler pay slowly?

call Chrysler direct. it's tough to argue when you are on the road and need to get a move on.

I thought the rear diffs were filled with syn from the factory?

Rear Differential comes with synthetic from factory.
