3:55 vs. 3:92...noticable difference in MPG's or splittin' hairs?

Well? Is there a significant benefit at the gas pump by going with the so-called "highway gears" 3:55's over the gas-guzzlin' power horse 3:92's?

You should try the 4:56 gears on my Power Wagon. It hauls @55, but I have to drive around with a gas pump attached to the truck... But I love it. Would get rid of it for anything!

i had a 11' quad cab 4x4 big horn for a month! 5.7, 3.55s!!! i was gettin 13 around town and at max 18 on highway! i traded it in today for a 11' quad cab 4x4 st with 5.7, 3.92s and around town iam at 20 and at 26+ on the highway! now thats going off the dash!!! but the big horn was 290 miles to a full tank 26 gallons! the st says 405 to a full tank 26 also! it felt like the big horn with the 3.55s i needed to be on the gas more to move the truck! with the 3.92s u dont have to be on it as much to keep momentum up!! im way happier with the 3.92s! plus i tow alot thats why i got rid of the 3.55! hope this helps!

When I picked out my truck, 3.92 gears was my starting point for options that were required as I needed a tow vehicle for my travel trailer but my gas mileage seems in line with most of those that have 3.55s. Theoretically I should get worse gas mileage but driving habits play a big part here.

I thought the big horn's came with the 3.92s?

Who is towing you when you get 26 mpg?

Big Horns come with 3:55's. The 3:92's are optional.

Me and my brother have identical trucks except for one thing...the rear-end gear ratio. He has a 2009 Hemi Sport with 3.55's and I have 2011 Hemi Sport with 3.92's...He says his average is 18.3mpg with 21,000 miles on his truck and mine is showing 17.4 with 3,000 miles on mine. I don't think there is much difference in fuel mileage, but you can really tell the difference in bottom end take-off with the 3.92's, that's why I went with them. I try to set my cruise at around 73 mph, which translates to about 2,000 RPM's...anything over that and I start seeing my average mpg fall off.

Before I bought my '11 sport with 3.55 I test drove a '10 Larmaie, it had 3.92 gears. Was it a big defference to me? Honestly i didnt notice it had the 3.92. I guess it depends on what kind of fast you're used to. Ive got 2 '08 ZX10R's in the garage so everything else seems like a dog to me! Im sure there is a difference but I didnt notice it, its a truck. Regardless I will be regearing the truck to 4.56 anyays. My 37" SSR's will be in today, 3.55/3.92 neither will be enough for those meats!

I completely missed the point of this thread, sry! Im sure the 3.92 is about same on hwy and has to be better in town!?
Exoyoto - 26mpg.....come on, really!?
