Oil change

so i did my first oil change and dealership added an additive and they said next time they were going to add a fuel additive because of engine sludge because they say the gas is horrible and for the hemi the additive will help

any one else heard of this ????

RamTech 03-28-2011 11:12 AM

Nope. Chrysler doesn't advocate additives in their fluids. Sounds like a scheme to charge extra though. I don't believe I've ever seen a sludge complaint from anyone with a Hemi.

E220 03-28-2011 11:15 AM

YEAH maybe i will opt out of this additive bull , they put an additive in my oil though

hear of that ?

RamTech 03-28-2011 12:42 PM

Not from a dealership, I haven't.

RedDodge 03-28-2011 03:45 PM

Todays oils and gas are full of additives already.....you don't see any engines with sludge anymore unless they were really abused...I'd stay away from them.

Sludge takes more than a few miles to build up, and, a massive amount of neglect and stupidity.

charlieb 03-28-2011 06:58 PM

high heat and cheap oil is most common sludge builder not neccesarily neglect and stupidity.just dont buy your oil at the dollar store.synthetic oils will keep engine clean and even reverse sludge buildup

erm 03-28-2011 07:05 PM

I ain't buyin' this at all. Sounds like a revenue generator for the dealer.

BBRam 03-29-2011 08:55 AM

How is a fuel additive gonna help with sludge? Sludge is formed in the oil, and unless you had 30k miles on your 2011 Ram before this first oil change and you somehow managed to rack up these miles with nothing but 10 minute trips, you don't have sludge.

Fuel addetives will only clean injectors and carbon buildup on top of the intake valves!
