I'm thinking about re-gearing.
I'm too short on time and patience to do it myself. My thought was, rather then take it to a shop and have them put whatever in there. Buy some parts that i could actually know to be better and have a shop do the install. Can anyone recommend a good retailer for all the parts needed, and a suggestion of manufacturers?

I've always been partial to Richmond gears.

Sorry i forgot to mention, it's 4x4 so i need two sets. Definately would like some type of "Locker" that wont blow out as a daily driver.

What gearing do you currently have and what were you looking to go to?

dvc357 04-04-2011 02:43 PM

Currently they appear to be 3.55's. Great but they can be knocked down some. I'm loafing down the highway at 2000rpm at speed. My tires are 31.6" in diamenter and i'd like to go to 33's and be geared down some.

You should try to go 33's and see if you like the gearing or not. If nothing else its gonna save a bunch of money in the long run going 1750rpm on the highway and if you really need some oomph, you push your right foot all the way down. I'm running the same thing you are and in Drive, I think I'm doing 1500rpm on the highway at 65 though.

but the older 4.7 is a slug. with my 33's, mine never shifts into 5th gear unless I'm going down hill. take offs are a joke. feels like I'm pulling a 5,000 pound trailer until i get past 4,000 rpm. I'm going with 4.56 gears so i can put on some 35's later.
