1996 Ram 5.9L Problem (HELP!!!)
I just bought a 5.9L 360, with the auto trans. It seems like around 1-25 mph it stutters really badly, like it's not getting fuel or not shifting. If I accelerate very slowly, or gun it, it it doesn't do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would certainly spend a weekend to clean the throttle body and to change the oil and oil filter, the breather filter, sparkplugs, pcv valve, air filter, check the distributor cap and clean it or replace it if needed, check the wireset. Also try doing a compression test. Replace the transmission filter and gasket, be sure to top off the atf fluid with atf+4. add a little seafoam to the fuel to clean out the valves and injectors. if you want add seafoam to the oil about 100 miles before you change the oil. keeping things clean and fresh usually helps. also you might want to check the rear differential, possibly replace the fluid along with the gasket and if you do change the gear oil be sure to add an additive, this helps with all sorts of problems and prevents problems as well.

No check engine light. Someone who drove it suggested transmission clutch bands????

basically check to see if it actually needs a tuneup and check the transmission fluid for color and smell to get a start but if you can hear the engine stuttering check that, also check for a leaking plenum gasket. cleaning the throttle body takes 5 mins but make sure you check everything.

When you say you gun it and nothing happens does the engine rev up at least? Or the same amount of sputtering is consistant regardles of the amount of pedal pressure you put down?

It seems as if the transmission is slipping going into 2nd. if I accerate quickly, or extremely slowly it wont do it,

Try adjusting your kickdown cable.
