How It Got Hydrolocked
I was being a typical 16yr old guy, going mudding with buddies. didnt relize how deep the water was, went threw it the Air Intake sucked all the water up, and my truck died. we pulled it out tried to start it up and it made a horrible grinding nosie, and the motor is locked up. i took it to the shop they said they will pull all the plugs and drain the water then see if she will turn over. they havnt called me back, but im staring to think of the worst.

Hi again Colton, well, theses are questions I can't answer, but I would look in my local phone book and call a few junk yards, or recycling yards and see if they have any 5.7's and what they were going for locally. Many of the High School auto shop classes would take on the fun of the rebuild for the experience and all you have to cover is parts. Seeing you are 16, I'd take a walk over to see my shop teacher and ask.

Good luck.

A friend of mine lost his 5.7 in a similar way. Hydroplaned and sucked in water...end result was a bent connecting rod. His was an 04 AWD and around these parts (Newfoundland, Canada) he was looking at around $3000 just for the engine. Not sure if the same is true for your location but i hope this gives you a rough idea on engine cost!

I am a mechanic in Albuquerque an I work for myself, I just did 04 Hemi used with 52000 mi, on it. I got the engine for 875.00 and charged them 800. for labor and fluids, plugs. Hopes this helps.
