Airbag light w/ no code....Confuse

I recently replaced the radio and made the mistake of not disconnecting the battery. Reconnected everything and got the airbag lights. one for the airbag system and one for the light. I used the proper scanner to reset the codes but the light is still there and no code is present. However, the scanner does recognized the light. I tried to reset but no joy (scanner reading = DTC "Passenger Airbag Disable Warning Lamp Open".) Any suggestions or recommendations?

Which light is still there, the one on the dash that says 'air bag' or the one for the passenger air bag disable?

Have you tried a full reset (remove battery cable for 30min+. This will reset all systems, but the truck will run a bit strange for the first while until it re-learns all the sensors.

:4-dontknow:

Its the airbag indicator light on the dash (cluster) and I left the battery disconnected for a few days also but the light refuses to go away. The only plug I disconnected during the radio installation was the passenger airbag on/off switch.

Have you checked to make 100% sure this plugged back in and none of the pins in the plug are bent or broken? Also, the crash sensor module is below the radio...pretty much on the floor (tunnel). I'd check to make sure this harness didn't get dislodged. :4-dontknow:

BTW - Disconnect the battery before checking this wiring. :)

No, I have not verified the pins condition nor the crash sensor mentioned. Thanks. This is a starting point for me....your time and consideration is greatly appreciated. As for disconnecting the battery, I have learned my lesson....if I even think about doing maintenance, the battery is the first thing to be disconnected.

LOL - Then if your under the truck running wires and accidentally roll on your remote start button twice, the truck doesn't start and cause you leave a heavy brown streak across the shop floor.

Not that this has happened to anyone I know while installing an electric tailgate lock. :shy:

This airbag light on the instrument cluster is really annoying. I have checked everything, scanned the sytem using the proper scan tool and got no codes but the scan tool does recognize the light as an Open Warning Lamp. Q: What else that would cause the night not to go our even after the system has been reset?

brad12kx 05-28-2011 12:59 AM

Any chance you have the passenger airbag turned off....if you have that option. :4-dontknow:

Nope, I turned the switch on/off and regardless of what position the switch is in, the light still illuminates.

When you select the passenger airbag to 'off', does the 'Off' light.....light up?
If not, replace the bulb....or fix the wiring to the bulb.

If this bulb is burnt out or disconnected, the main airbag warning light in the instrument cluster will stay lit. :)
