How do you tell if you have the HO 4.7???

Boy, this seems like the stupidest question ever. I would think the obvious answer is that it would have "HO" or "High Output" plastered on it somewhere but I have Googled and searched here and haven't really found anything.

Am I correct in thinking that the 4.7L engine is officially and largely called the Powertech engine (just like the description in the top right corner of my bio says, lol) but is also commonly referred to as the Magnum in Ram trucks? So the appearance of "Magnum" on the engine does not mean it is the HO version?? So how do you tell?

Thanks!

The "Magnum" series of engines went by the wayside as the 2nd generation trucks were phased out. The 360/5.9L gas engine was part of the "Magnum" family of engines.

have you sent off for you build sheet? that might have the info on it.

Maddog, yeah when I search for Ram Magnum engine the older truck is about all I find. But my engine says "Magnum" on the intake resonator.

jc4041, no I haven't tried that. Can they print that off for me locally?

Just click on the "build sheet" link in jc4041's post, takes ya right to the info you can fill out and I believe they e-mail it to you.

I filled out for the build sheet first thing one morning and got it emailed to me the same day.

I was thinking (and hoping, lol) that the Magnum was the name of the HO 4.7 but I don't think that is going to be the case. Powertech is obviously the official name for this engine family and I think Magnum is just a name stuck to the Powertech engines that were put in Ram trucks. I don't know this for sure though. I have seen some photos of the HO 4.7 in Jeeps and the resonator on those engines actually says "High Output" on it. I can't seem to find a photo of a 4.7 HO in a Ram though. I'm going to try to get my hands on my build sheet tomorrow if the dealership is open or if not the next day.
