Confirmed: 6 speed in all 2012 models, and ram box available in all models

Well I have good news guys. Stopped in to my dealer, sat in front of him with his computer, and ordered my 2012 Ram Express.

- 6 Speed Auto is STANDARD

- Ram box is available on ALL cabs, including the Express 6 4 box

Now to order a 6 speed auto and a bed with ram box for my 2011 R/T. Or do I trade in the 2011 for a 2012, hmm

What I want to know are the gear ratios on the 65RFE (1500) and 66RFE (2500 Gas)?

Are they:
3.23
1.84
1.41
1.00
0.82
0.63

If so that would explain the option of 4.11 and 4.56 (2WD Only) in the 1500.

Don't trade your 2011 in for a 2012 just for the 6 speed, it's the same transmission that's in the 2011, just called a 6 speed, they both have 2 second gears.

MAY 28th, 2011

Source oh2o has confirmed that the 2012 Ram will have an available 65RFE or 66RFE automatic hooked up to its V8s, while the Durango and Grand Cherokee will have the new six-speed version of the 65RFE automatic when equipped with V8 engines.

The 66RFE and 65RFE are based on the five-speed 545RFE and are likely to share gear ratios with the 68RFE sold with Cummins diesels. The 65RFE is destined for the 1500 while the 66RFE is slated for the 2500 with Hemi. (Thanks, oh2o and Moose Eater, for the correction.)

The 300 and Charger V6 models, as announced earlier, will have the eight speed automatic available on all models (optional on base, standard on higher end trim) including all wheel drive versions. The V8 will stick with the five speed; and whether the Challenger will move up to the eight speed is unknown at this time. (Thanks, Moose Eater).

---------------------------------------------------------
as you all know, within a couple years the Chryslers, Dodges, Jeeps, & Rams are all getting the new ZF 8 speed transmission, a 9 speed will go in front wheel drive vehicles
Rams will be the last to get the 8 speed
there have been so many car orders with the ZF 8 speed, that they have temporarily stopped taking orders :)

High orders for 8HP cause order delay. Posted on June 17th, 2011 by DaveAdmin

oh2o wrote that high demand on initial orders for cars with the new 8-speed transmission has led Chrysler to temporarily turn off the order banks for the 2012 Dodge Charger and 2012 Chrysler 300 V6 models that feature the ZF 8HP. Ordering is expected to re-open in about a month.

Currently, these transmissions are purchased from ZF, (in Germany) but Chrysler is tooling up to make them at 2 plants in Indiana.

that note does not say it, but, a plant is being built in Greenville South Carolina too

Chris, I don't mean to second guess you, but are you 100% sure of your statement "- Ram box is available on ALL cabs, including the Express 6 4 box"? I went to order a 2012 Ram 3500 Mega Cab 4x4 SRW with 6'4" bed last week and was told that the Rambox for this bed size was not available.

chrismeyers2k1 06-24-2011 10:28 PM

I only meant the 1500. The ram box was available to me for order on a 6 4 1500 Express box.

kev12345 06-26-2011 01:26 PM

damn. i was hoping they'd make it available on the HD's...

The new 65rfe is just a reprogram 545rfe.

The nre 66rfe is a 545rfe with 68rfe gear set.
