tire help!

hello im new to the truck world, seeing as my dodge ram 1500 is my first truck ever :-). anyways im a little confused with tire sizes and stuff like that. right now i have the stock tires on it i believe there 245/75r16. i was hoping to go a little wider with the tire and a little more knobbier, i have a 1999 1500 4x4 so the body is sitting pretty high above the tires i have on now.

So i guess what im asking is what are my limits with getting bigger tires without doing a body or suspension lift.

And if i get wider tires do i need to buy different rims?

~Thanks
Joshua

Hi, Joshua, this is my 4,000th post! So, how much are you willing to spend? I'd take a quick look at www.tirerack.com they have a great fitment tool and an interactive viewing tool that would let you see those new rims on the truck. :Hey:

33's on a 1500 without rub, but can do 35's on a rim with a negative offset (-5 to -12), but will rub at full turn (where your mudflaps would install) unless you cut a little metal (actually pretty easy did mine today. 33's though if wanting no hassle (plus cheaper), may also need a lift or leveling kit for 35's someone else may know better that part.
