Prayers for the Shaw Family

A firefighter from around my home town area passed away friday from injuries sustained from a business fire he was at on a mutual aid call. Being a firefighter myself Ive know Corey for a while and this is a huge tragedy for our small towns. So please send prayers his way for his family, he was recently married and had a 3 year old daughter. Below I will post the article.

Du QUOIN -- Practically born a fireman, Corey Shaw responded to Friday’s alarm fully aware of what he might face.
Friends and family said the Du Quoin firefighter killed battling a blaze on the Pinckneyville town square was young, but he lived his life with love, humor and full-hearted devotion.
He “is definitely a hero,” said his aunt, Tammie Short-Benes. “He died saving others. He lived and breathed his job; (he) went to fires with his dad from (when he was) a wee one.”
The fire, which raged for hours, destroyed the Pinckneyville Antique Mall and Kunz Opera House.
Shaw, 22, son of Du Quoin Fire Chief Bob Shaw, was on a ladder near the east wall of the Antique Mall when the wall collapsed, witnesses said. He was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital, where he died at 8:18 p.m. Friday.
Corey Shaw’s survivors include his wife, Nichole; 3-year-old daughter, Camryn; his parents, Bob and Rosalynn Shaw; and a sister, Megon Trovart. A press operator at Continental Tire in Mount Vernon, Corey Shaw had been a member of Du Quoin Fire Department since July 2010.
Short-Benes described her nephew as a good man, a funny jokester, a wonderful father, husband and son who loved his family with every breath and put heart and soul into everything he did.
Shaw’s cousin, Jennifer Bryant, described him as generous and a man who worked hard to support his family.
“He would have done anything he could to help you,” Bryant said.
Pinckneyville Fire Chief Jim Gielow said Shaw’s death is “a terrible tragedy.
“There’s a lot of risk, we know that coming in,” Gielow said.
The Du Quoin Fire Department was swamped Saturday with calls expressing sympathy and messages of condolence for the Shaw family. Corey Shaw’s Facebook page was also filled with messages of tribute and love.
Pinckneyville Fire Department continued the cleanup from Friday’s fire throughout the night and into Saturday. Gielow said they could be working on cleanup for days. All that is left of both buildings is smoldering rubble.
Ron Ridgeway, owner of the Pinckneyville Antique Mall and Tim Mathis, owner of the Kunz Opera House, were both on the square Saturday morning.
Ridgeway and his family — including wife Sherry, son Clint, his girlfriend, Ashley Rojek, and their son, Chevy — lived in the Antique Mall and lost all their possessions.
“There’s been an outpouring of support like you wouldn’t believe,” said Ron Ridgeway. “People have offered us clothes, shelter and monetary help. We’re overwhelmed with the generosity and support and love and care people have shown us.”
But Ridgeway and Mathis were quick to point out their losses could not compare with that of the Shaw family.
“This is sad, but it’s nothing like the Shaw family is experiencing,” Mathis said.
Corey Shaw was brought home Saturday. The procession of fire and emergency vehicles passed through the Pinckneyville town square on its way to Du Quoin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Du Quoin Middle School, 845 East Jackson Street.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 16 N. Walnut St., Du Quoin. Burial will be in Old Du Quoin Cemetery.

Memorials for an education fund for his daughter, Camryn Ray Shaw, will be accepted at the funeral home.
