I'm cutting cats

ok..... so i want to cut my cats off of my 05 5.7 ram. will this hurt anything and do i need to install o2 deletes so my check engine light wont come on?

Without a reading change between o2 sensors it'll throw a code.
Either get something to deal with it or just ignore the CEL

Daytona75 07-01-2011 09:28 PM

not really worried about the code so much as i am worried about damage. will it hurt anything?

You will be good.

I too am curious about the O2 sensor thing?? Will rear O2 sensor spacers be enough to keep the engine light off if the cats are deleted? Does the diablo sports tuner have any ability to disable the rear O2 sensor codes?

It won't damage anything, just make things a whole lot louder. I'm not here to question street legality in terms of this, but if you have to take regular emissions tests like we do in Illinois, having a check engine light or code/no cats will automatically fail your emissions test. As a result you cannot register your truck for the following year.

If the truck is your regular driver and your state does the inspection stuff I would get that checked out so you don't have a headache down the road.

the rear 02's only monitor the cats...so you will have to disable them (diablo or custom tune), or run something like plug foulers (see pics). If you tune them out, they will have to be turned on for emissions testing (at least in Cali)

Actualllllly. Only northern illinois does the emissions testing, I lived in Southern IL (Marion, Carbondale area) my entire life and never had to do an emissions test with any vehicle. And the nearest emissions station is 3 hours north of there in Springfield and there is nooooo way there would make people drive there to get tested. Just sayin lol (end of thread hi-jack)

the atmosphere....

the non fouler trick worked on my gm's, costs only a few bucks and 30 min to an hour. Why do you want to remove them? They hardly rob you of any power...
