Backfire/cough at highway cruising speeds from MDS?
So while driving steady (not sure if it happens while using cruise or not) between 55 and 65 I'll hear what sounds like a small backfire now and then. Could this be from the MDS? I'll also hear it at lower speeds in town, if I'll trying to take it easy and not get into it.

if you are Not in 5th overdrive, does it still happen?
MDS only works when in the highest gear selection

How many miles on your spark plugs ?? :)

nightshifter 07-03-2011 01:21 AM

Yup, sometimes seems to happen occasionally in town, like if I'm making a turn and trying to keep my speed even.

76k on the truck, probably the same on the plugs.

what happened at 40,000 mile service
did you even change your air filter?

I bought it with 75k on it. I'm looking for the service records they gave me right now to see if they have been changed or not.

Since you didn't mention it, I assume you got no check engine light, eh?

I'd definitely change the plugs and make sure your wires and coil packs are in good condition.

CHVYKLR 07-03-2011 06:27 PM the very least pull a plug and check the gap/condition of it. you most likely need a basic tune-up.

if you bought it with 75k I'd check all the fluids too. the trans and axles might be in need of a change. you'll be surprised how much of a difference it can make.

Looks like a trip to the mechanic is in order then. Thanks everyone. I used to be able to do this stuff myself but on these newer cars and trucks I'm never sure what I might be getting into.
