Cam choices

Im looking for input from the guys with cams, I've got an 03 2500 with 7inch lift an 37 inch tires, So Im not looking to win any races with the truck but gain big numbers on the low to mid range to help get the truck moving and improve the mpg numbers. thanks for any input.

what gears are you runnin?

heavy2500 07-03-2011 07:25 PM

I have the stock 3:73

it'll run you a couple of hunderd bucks more but I think some 4.56 gears would serve you better to get those 37" meats a turnin.

for the money I just don't think you'd be happy with the gains you'll see from a low end cam.

yea I would love to get the gears right now but the wife gave me a cap of $500 bucks right now:doh: an ive got all the 6.1 springs an push rods plus timing set for a cam swap.

4.56s would make your truck feel twice as powerfull, not sure on which cam you should go with but would you be installing it or having it done by someone?

heavy2500 07-03-2011 09:39 PM

I would install it

hopefully some of the gen III guys will chime in. in the mean time you can check out comp cams website. it has an interactive program where you plug in your truck/motor info and what you want to accomplish then it spits out a recommendation. I guess I would also give Stu a call at Inertia Motorsports also.

don't forget about getting the cam dyno tuned.

heavy2500 07-03-2011 11:13 PM

yea i got with stu on my srt max for the magnum an I didnt know comp had that Ill go check it out.
