has anyone ever swapped the unit on top of the cab from a 98 (with no digital display that shows direction or mpg) for a newer one that does have those features? thanks

I havent, but id think there would be alot of wiring involved.....but it would be a nice upgrade!

Look at some of the stero specialists in your area, someone might offer an install kit

You would be missing some sensors but if you do the research you can find the right ones.

The other thing that kind of makes this difficult is processing the sensor signals through your generation PCM. Each generation truck seems to get an upgraded sensor package and program point for each.

Try and goole a wiring diagram for it.....you might get lucky and it will hsve a separate wiring harness and hook up like a stereo with just a few wires needing hooked up like b+, ground and ignition hot

It has been done I just got finished doin mine its pretty straight foward you need the wiring harness from the over head console the dual vanity mirrors and the auto dimming rear view mirror it plugs right in the back of the fuse box where your stock console did you have to pull down the headliner to put the wiring in. wire it passed the dash the same place the stock is located this is the page I used to get it done http://m.***************/forum/showthread.php?t=217079
