Flowmaster 44 vs 40

Which do you prefer on your truck the 44 or the 40 series and why?

rkpilot2002 07-09-2011 07:09 PM

I have the original 40 series and it is a little too loud for my taste. Has a pretty loud drone around 2k rpm in the cabin. Its not so loud that I'll swap it out, but I'd prefer slightly less noise around town. Its fine on the highway and at idle. I havent towed anything yet, but i suspect it will be pretty loud under load.

I prefer Magnaflow. :D

Lol Maddog. But is there really any difference between a Magnaflow and the Flowmaster 40? Pretty sure theyre the same thing?
Also apparently from what Ive heard the 44 is barely louder but cuts down on interior noise.

No, they are different. The Flows are chambered mufflers, the Magnaflows are not, being a straight through with bi-directional baffles. Take a look at both of the websites.

The 44's have a different resonance which may help inside the cabin. They are still a 2 chamber muffler as is the 40 series. The 50 series then steps up to a 3 chamber design which will change the resonance and decibel level.

The Magnaflow is pretty nice...quiet burble at idle, nice when cruising down the road, a sound that gets people lookin' when ya get on it.

I've been running true dual Magnaflows on my SRT since 2007 and still like the sound. I've had the Magnaflow single in / dual out unit on my truck since early 2010.

I heard a Charger 5.7L with the Series 44's on it and it sounded good from the outside. Inside, it was a bit noisy for my tastes but then again, what doesn't sound good to me may sound good to you. I felt it was interfering with the tunes and I doooo like my tunes. :D

Good luck with your upgrade!

How do the prices usually compare?

erm 07-09-2011 09:26 PM

Don't know about the prices but you can check the websites and pick two mufflers that will work on your truck. I believe both sites show retail pricing.

I had a true dual system on my ImpalaSS with Flowmasters. They rusted out in about 5 years. I've had the Magnaflows on my SRT since 2007 and they are doing just fine. The Magnaflow warranty is better too.

I have the Super 44 on my truck (just like yours) and love it. I can't really compare to the 40 series but from what little I've heard the Supper 44 is a little deeper and the 40 series is a little more raw/throaty. You can get either one for around $65-70. I had a shop do the muffler swap and put on my stainless Flowmaster tip....total for muffler, tip, and labor was about $125.

I think Flowmaster and Magnaflow sound completely different. Flowmaster is generally louder and more aggressive while Magnaflow is more of a quieter growl if that makes sense, lol. Check em out on youtube.

I wish i could just have two trucks right next to each other so I could hear the difference. Hate that lol

I had a super 40 on my truck that was a single in single out. it was loud, liked the sound but was a little intrusive in the cab. now have a single in 2 out super 44 and it's not as loud as the 40 was but is nice, nice to be able to hear myself in the cab. I like it.
