Remove or not to remove
Doing some rust removal and reconditioning of the undercarriage of a 99 1500 ext. cab short bed. The bed has been removed and in the process of cleaning up I will be coating everything with Rust Bullet (alternative rust coating product ideas welcome) Because of the difficulty in getting all the loose scale off I want to grind off the rivets and remove the cross members to do a through job. Is this a good Idea and is it sufficient to replace the rivets with grade 8 hardware when reassembling? If this is going to hamper the integrity of the frame I'd rather not.

Here are a couple of pics so you can see what I'm into. The rivets I'm most concerned with hold the rear stub on and also attach the front spring shackle bracket to the frame on both sides. My main concern is the integrity of the frame where the rear stub attaches to the front frame. I would be removing the rear(spare tire) cross member and the cross member at the front spring shackle as pictured. Again at assembly would grade 8 hardware be a suitable substitute for the factory rivets?
