Axle Shaft, front differential

Hi, Im going to sort of skip the intro as a newcomer because i need immediate help. I have a 97 dodge Ram 1500 5.2L V8 4x4 and i recently broke my inner and outer axle while four wheelin'. I have the part to replace it but my main question is is there supposed to be a bearing that is supposed to be on the inner shaft between the seal and I guess the knuckle that connects to the U-joint eventhough that's pretty far to measure from. also this is on the front passenger side.
sorry, its hard to explain its just that The inner shaft seems very clean in one spot and I was thinking that maybe that rotated in a bearing and kept it clean.

any advice will help thanks

No bearing (carrier bearing) accessable from the spindle end. Theres one accessable from the diff, plus seal, real SOBs, apparently, I haven't yet had the personal pleasure, but my time's coming, I've only torn up the left side axle joints, relatively easy fixes.
