Magnaflow 16869 or 16870 for my 11' Ram Crew Cab Laramie

Hi all

I need a new exhaust for my 11' Ram 1500 Crew Cab Laramie.

I've found two which I would prefer to.

Magnaflow 16869:

Magnaflow Stainless Steel Cat-Back Performance Exhaust System

Part Number: M/F16869
  • 5 x 11 x 22 in. Dual Outlet Muffler
  • 3/2.5 in. Tube
  • Dual Split Rear Exit
  • Dual 5 in. Polished Tips
Or

Magnaflow 16870:

Magnaflow Stainless Steel Cat-Back Performance Exhaust System

Part Number: M/F16870
  • 5 x 11 x 22 in. Dual Outlet Muffler
  • 3/2.5 in. Tube
  • Dual Split Rear Exit
  • Dual 3.5 in. Polished Tip
Of course, I'd like to have the 16869 with the 5 in. tips, but here in Switzerland, the cops donít like illegal exhausts:nutkick:. Iíd get a big ass fine if they catch me with a non registered exhaust and itís impossible to make this exhaust legal.

Are there any other differences between these two cat-backs besides the size of the tips? Sound? Power?

Of course the Magnaflow Y-Pipe 10778 is also planned to be installed, but Iím not sure about the cat-back.

Thanks for your help.

Michael

I'd go with the y pipe and muffler and keep the factory duals in place. Less change might be better. Just my 2Ę.

I agree with him ^

As for your actual question I don't know the differences between the two exhausts you posted.

The 16869 is designed for Rams with the cut-out bumper,
the 16870 is for the non-cutout bumper. so the tips are smaller and mount lower below the bumper.

The size of the tip is the only real difference.

You may have to adjust the hanger height to raise the tips if you install the 16870 on a bumper with stock cut-outs.

I doubt that anyone would know the 16869 is an aftermarket exhaust at idle, and it looks like it was factory made for the larger bumper cutouts.

If you don't want the 5" tips, I would just swap the muffler/y-pipe.

Thanks guys.

I'm still not sure how to go, but thanks a lot for your information.

If the 16869 with the 5 in. tips is not too loud and look almost stock, I guess I will buy them.

I could still change my mind and just mount the muffler and leave the stock tips with the new muffler on it.

If the 16870 is made for the non-cutout bumber then it's not gonna be that one.

Thanks,
Michael
