318 Build Idea?
 
Hey guys would like some imput

Thinking of going with a set of

Keith Black/KB Pistons KB399-STD off of summit racing along with a


Crower 34418 as well ....


I also have heads from a 360 Magnum to replace my 318 heads

I would be using the stock parts in my motor minus the ones above, didn't know if ya all had done this before, I have read a few articles, alot of people seem to recondition the factory parts and they gain alot of HP and Torque with a tune

Ideas? thoughts or opions?

goal is 300-330HP basically a 100HP difference with out swaping in a 360... lol

[Derogatory comment removed by Administrator] The 318 and 360 heads are the same, changing heads would be pointless. The difference between the two engine is the stroke. The 360 only has around 25 more hp then the 318 but you can do alot with a 318 you could do timing changes you you can just full out replace the cam with a custom made cam or a pre-made cam and then do a timing advance but advancing it im sure you already know will kill MPG. the next thing you could do is to change the intake manifold to a huges hi fi they run somewhat cooler this is a plus because magnum engines are known to ping alot and the hi fi intake has shown to give a bit more HP. the next thing you can also do is change the distributor to a vacuum advance generally is best practice to do this especially when you advance changing. these are the minimal things you can do to increase HP and torque, other things would involve the transmission and differential.

I went with a head change out because my heads have 148K miles with no rebuild on them, the other heads have 354 miles lmao... also I thought the intake and exhaust valves were bigger on the 360 than the 318? Least it was on the A style motors, why I figured changing them out would work. My MPG already sucks and as I only drive the truck once or twice a week decided to have some fun :), thanks for the ideas, don't worrie if ya made a bad comment, im a very relaxed guy:LOL: anyways more ideas welcome! and someone corect me if im wrong on the heads intake and exahust valves, tho im sure im right. :):SHOCKED:

There are more differences between a 318 and 360 than just the stroke. The heads I am not sure about but I know older generation 360s had larger valves. I myself have never been a fan of the 360 and honestly don't care for the changes that were made in the magnum edition heads. Rip out the magnum version stuff, grab an older block, and strap on a set of w-2 heads.

while you have the heads off you mid as well port and polish em, and port the intake to match, and of course cut the runners down, until you get the hughes fi intake

LA's had different heads. Magnums see the same.

Thanks for the imput... I planed on porting and polishing the heads while I have them. Mite look into that TB as well :)
